molae의 작업 방식은 크게 세가지 과정 - 언어적, 물리적, 디지털의 과정으로 구분된다. 일반적으로 molae의 디자인은 클라이언트 혹은 사용자와의 섬세한 대화에서 시작되지만, molae office의 경우에는 디자이너가 직접 사용자가 되어 나눈 대화를 바탕으로 공간을 구상하였다.

molae Office is the workspace for the design studio molae, founded by two spatial designers, Seung Young Hong and Jung Eun Park. Thus, the space originates from the discussions between the two users -founders of the office- about functional matters. These discussions revolve around questions of how we work, what we need, and how to bring those needs into tangible form.
Our way of working can be divided into three steps: verbal, physical, and digital. Typically, our designs begin with a delicate conversation between the client and the user, but in this case, it was we who had to converse, which led to this entire story. Based on the understanding and analysis from these verbal discussions, the visible design begins on a blank white paper. Starting from handcrafted ideation, we move to the next steps: transforming designs from 2D sketches and drawings into 3D models, which is the most important part of the process. Throughout this phase, we continuously question ourselves. After this journey, it’s finally time to translate our work into digital formats. Through the digital process, we can examine the design details and continuously develop them to the next level. This entire process of how we work has been the motif of our design.
Three desks, two drawers, and a fabricated wood partition unit in the middle of the space are based on that design process. The area is large enough for both computers for digital work and drawing boards for handcrafted work. This standard provided us with a guide for the overall scale and divided the space into personal and shared areas. Each piece of furniture is used based on each step of the design process, starting with the large desk for open conversations to our own desk, which can also share certain areas depending on the situation. Especially, the movable drawer, which consists of two parts—the front area and side area—is customized based on our variable ways of working. The zinc shelf and counter are also designed to be assembled and disassembled, allowing customization according to their usage.
Through this workspace, which is well-suited to our routines, molae, the designer of this space, intended to apply and demonstrate our ways of working within the space itself.
